1st XI v Bredbury – 23/04/16

RCC 1XI Vs Bredbury

After 44 years, the long awaited local rivalry was reignited at Bredbury Cricket Club on Saturday.

Skipper Mark Flattley won the toss and decided to bowl first.  Following a fresh new warm up by professional video analyst Sam Astley, the boys were pumped and ready to do battle.

Australian debutant Andrew Humphries took the new ball, with his pace too hot to handle for the Bredbury top order.  Despite the cold conditions, he picked up the wickets of Keyworth and Wood in no time, welcome to England Andy!

Fueled on Sausage and beans, young Alex Hooton showed much promise and talent with the ball in hand yet again.  He picked up a caught and bowled wicket, bowling 8 overs for only 12 runs.

However, star of the show was Paul ‘the skull’ Garner.  The wiley spinner and RCC Player of the Year, continued where he finished off last season.  With figures of 6-6 off 12.4 overs, the Bredbury batsman had no answers to the spinner’s guile.

After bowling Bredbury out for 52..the Rolph and Holt partnership started well until Rick was trapped lbw off Wood.  Despite a few loose shots from J Badrock and Biggy Milne, we chased down the small total losing 5 wickets along the way.  A promising start from Rolphy with a solid looking 25.

Celebratory beers were flowing back at the RCC, following a great start and big 25pt derby win!

We look forward to welcoming Barnton CC to Romiley next Saturday, 1:30pm start and bar open
