NEWS ARCHIVE 2007 5th September 2007 - Twenty20 and site updates The Twenty20 competition scheduled for this Sunday has been cancelled due to lack of players. The site has been updated with the match reports from last weekend and also with the teams for this weekend 31st August 2007 - Match Reports All senior match reports from weekend 25th/26th/27th now online Also, the report from the Under 9's Cheshire Cricket Festival performance and also season batting/bowling stats are now available to see.
22nd August 2007 - Past and Future Some updates to the site. Latest 1st and 2nd teams are now online, the thirds will be available once the skipper has picked from his multitude of players. Also, the match report from the 2nds game is online and I'd imagine the one from the 1sts will arrive soon. However, the 3rds still need someone to write theirs as the skipper was away watching his teams 'commanding' derby win.
UPDATE: 3rds Team 15th August 2007 - Update 14th August 2007 - Results and Additions All teams won this weekend again. So far I've only got the 2nds match report although I would have the thirds if the skipper had decided to attach the right weeks report to his email. Missing items will be added in due course. Also, two new sections have been added to the gallery that you may find interesting. Find them here 11th August 2007 - Updates Everything up-to date as of today, excluding this weekends results. Notable additions - 2nds table and stats. Also, for those who didn't know, the third team were awarded their previously drawn match against Marple due to Marple breaking the rules regarding first team players (For those of you who were there; Cash, the young lad who bowled 20 odd overs and scored 70, was only allowed to make up the numbers or something like that because he had played for Marple Firsts). We didn't protest to the league, it was the league who approached us. Believe me, we're not that desperate to get promoted. 6th August 2007 - Results and Match Reports 1sts and 2nds both won this weekend - match reports to follow - but the 3rds lost a thriller against Marple - yet another sign that the Third Team is the best team in the club - not that I'm biased or anything. Read the match report here 1st August 2007 - Match Reports 1st
Team Also, senior teams for this coming weekend now online 30th July 2007 - Updates Hello All The site is now up-to-date minus this weekends fixtures as I've not yet received any match reports. I'm not going to list all of the things that have been put up as there are too many. Martin Langhorn, past player and long term member of the club, has kindly emailed me lists of past club officials and captains which he has been constructing along with Nigel Veevers. Links to these lists can be found below or through the 'history' page. Sections of recent history are incomplete - if you see a gap that you can put a name to, please email me - tom.hiddleston@gmail.com 4th July 2007 - Teams Latest senior teams now online You never know, we might actually get some play here - take a look at the weather forecast 2nd July 2007 - Gallery The club gallery is slowly beginning to take shape. Find it here. However, I still need photos. If you have anything, on any club related subject, you wish to be in the gallery, email it to me (tom.hiddleston@gmail.com) In other news, the only result this week was the 1st team winning their cup match against Congleton. Dave Winkley Director of FW Engineering,
this weekends ball sponsor has, following his visit on Saturday agreed
to an additional 6 Ball Sponsorship, which equates to a further £180.
We have agreed to retain the 3 Sponsr boards in permanent positions
moving the onelocated on the fence to above the Scorebox roller shutter
door, (Great suggestion by Dave Shenton).

12th June 2007 - Under 17s plus... Romiley won by 2 wickets against local rivals Woodley - a game which, had we all played as well as we could have, would never have been so close. Find substitute match reporter Captain Flattley's match report here. It's actually one of the best I've read this year. The results are available and the draw has been made for the 3rd round of the 2nd team Hawke Cup. Find it all here High Peak Under 13s Match Report available here 11th June 2007 - Added Items

On it is the latest weeks results if for some reason they're not emailed to you and also a list of all the teams to help you if you can't remember yours - I know I couldn't. Tom 1st June 2007 - 1st Team News Will Gardner, the young Aussie who made a big impact with us two years ago, returns in Saturday's D&C Div 2 clash at Mellor. Will comes in for holidaying run-getter Andy Bashford as Romiley aim for their fifth successive League win in a completed game, a run which sees them just a point behind leaders Hadfield. It's a big ask for the lad from Melbourne's Broadmeadows club. He has hardlly held a bat since the end of the Aussie season and soon after arriving turned an ankle playing soccer. Speed is a big part of his game. He came originally as a keeper-batsman but, with Dan Leach the man then in possession behind the stumps, revealed whippet pace at cover, topping our run saving chart with 89. And his ferocious running between the wickets helped him to 561 runs, a total only headed by Leach, his former clubmate at Broadmeadows. If he can overcome his handicaps, he will give us a major plus, adding to our intensity and quality. Martin Leach Also, Under 15s match report from Wednesday night now online. Read it here 31st May 2007 - Various News Teams for this weekend are finally here after a bit of a delay - 1sts, 2nds, 3rds. I also have match reports for last weekend for the firsts and seconds. On Saturday 23rd June, there is a Jazz Night at the club - tickets cost £10 including food and are available from this Friday (1st June) at the bar. team Also, for anyone who didn't receive the email, Dave Oldland is thinking of organising a poker/curry night at some point. Click here for more information Under 9s Match report from today 21st May 2007 - Match reports Match reports from the High Peak Under 13s, 2nd and 3rd teams recently added 16th May 2007 - Senior teams Senior teams for this weekends matches now up. 14th May 2007 - Weather plays havoc again The weather was lovely this weekend - if you like rain. On Saturday, both the 1sts and 2nds were abandoned as well as the 3rd team game on Sunday. We did get two 'results' though: The first team had a 20 over bash with New Brighton, suffering a heavy loss in the equally heavy rain. Match report for this to follow. Also the Under 13s won through to the next round of the Cheshire Cup, thanks to a bowl-off against Hawk Green. We won 2-0 with hits from David Badrock and Tom Rolph. Next round Cheadle. 9th May 2007 - Sponsorship Myers Tree Care are to continue with their successful clothing sponsorship deal with Romiley. We are delighted to announce that boss David Myers has now confirmed he is happy to continue to support the club for a third year -- and at an increased level. He was knocked out when invited to the last junior presentation evening to see his stylish club jackets being worn with such pride by the kids. It's a major boost for the club and another sign that local businessmen can see the value of our work in the community. 9th May 2007 - TEAMS TEAMS TEAMS Teams for this weekends senior games - 1st team x2, seconds and thirds - now up and available on the respective team pages. For those of you for whom the website seems to strangely mess up (MICK ROWE) or for those who are just too lazy, you can click the direct links below. Martins 1st Team Preview Bright young hope Billy Flattley gets two chances this weekend to cement a first team place. He will be used in Saturday's D&C League test at Broadbottom. And he stays in 24 hours later for the home Cockspur Cup clash with New Brighton. He's not the only youngster to break in. Mike Shenton is also to face the Liverpool Premier League side in the second round tie. The match at Broadbottom brings back unhappy memories from last season. It was there we had a big win but had a point deducted for a slow over rate -- and that was the margin that cost us promotion. Broady have had a similar start to ours, winning two out of three and are third, two points ahead of us. The New Brighton tie starts at 1.30, 30 minutes later than planned. Please note also that the home Lovelane Cheshire Cup-tie with Winsford or Ashton-on-Mersey is on May 20, not the 27th. 7th May 2007 - Weather Beaten The weekend began well in that the firsts bowled out Hollingworth for 75 at home and the seconds doing the same to Tintwhistle out for 122. However, only the 1st XI managed to convert this into a win as the newly promoted 2's crashed to 106 all out. 2nds report here The third team managed to complete neither of their two matches, both games called off midway through due to rain and all round nastiness.. However, I still have match reports, here and here. Two more games to fall victim to the weather were the Under 17s and the High Peak Under 13s team. Part-match report for the latter here. Here's hoping for some better weather this weekend. 3rd May 2007 - Weekend preview Romiley have reverted to the team that handsomely won at Woodley last week for Saturday's visit of shock early D&C Div.2 leaders Hollingworth(2pm). That means quick returns for Andy Bashford and Dave Garner, both unavailable for Sunday's Cockspur Cup home triumph against Alder. U21 skipper Billy Flattley, who bowled a solid opening spell, and Rob Booker, who batted enterprisingly when helping centurion Rick Holt put on over a hundred for the fifth wicket, drop out. Rob would have been sidelined anyway. He faces a six-week lay-off after damaging shoulder ligaments while trying to take a spectacular catch. Hollingworth have made a big somersault in form. Last season, they finished bottom ,winning only one of their 22 games and ending up 60 points behind the next club, Mellor. Now, they and relegated Hadfield are the only clubs with 100per cent records -- with the campaign only two games old. Last week, they took 21 points while turning over Charlesworth by seven wickets and, with 41 points, are 15 ahead of our lads. Eddie Nickson's men will be out to close that gap... Meanwhile, Romiley now know they face formidable New Brighton at Birchvale Drive in the second round of the Cockspur on May 13. The Liverpool Premier squad won through by hammering Kearsley by 147 runs after hitting a massive 343-7 in their opening game......Will Gardner expects to be back with us within three weeks. The all action Aussie, who made a big impact for us with his batting and run-saving two seasons ago, couldn't wait to return. And with hard-hitting Chris Hulley expected to join us around the same time, we will have the most exciting batting line up in the league--and a massive selection headache. UPDATE - Romiley have had to make a late change for tomorrow's visit by shock D&C Div.2 leaders Hollingworth. Opening bat and keeper Dan Leach has damaged a thumb and misses the Birchvale Drive match. That means Rick Holt, who deputised ably behind the stumps for him last season, keeps wicket and Neil Alexander steps up from the seconds. Originally, U21 skipper 'Billy' Flattley and Rob Booker, who were in Sunday's Cockspur Cup triumph over Alder, were the only two scheduled to miss out, giving way to Andy Bashford and Dave Garner, both unavailable last Sunday. On a different note, match reports from Wednesdays Under 15s match and Thursdays Under 9's match are now online - thanks to the respective team managers. 2nd May 2007 - Weekend Round-Up and more A bit late, I know - not my fault - but finally here is this weekends results and match reports. On Saturday, the 1st team won by 8 wickets away at Woodley. You can find the match report here. The following day, they won at home to Alder by 132 runs, including Rick Holts century - match report here. On Monday night the High Peak U13s team beat Offerton. Tim's match report is here Last thing: The proposed Under 17s team for Monday can be found here. If you can't play, CONTACT MALCOLM, ALEX OR BILLY ASAP. Contact details are on the 'contact' page of the Under 17s site if you need them. UPDATE - 3rds teamsheets for Sunday and Monday now up. Click here 30th April 2007 - Results 2nd team match report now online as well as the latest league table.Click here to read the report and here to see the table. Still awaiting both first team reports and I haven't been at the club this weekend so I don't know the results. However, one thing I have heard is that Rick Holt scored 161 n.o. yesterday against Alder in the cup. Average. Also, the match report from last Wednesday's U13 cup match is now up and available here Keep checking back for the first team results 25th April 2007 - Weekend Build-up Romiley 1st XI will be unchanged for Saturday's League
visit to Woodley(1.30) Martin Leach 25th April 2007 - Team News 1st and 2nd XI team for Saturday now up as well as U11s for the Sunday and the 1st XI cup game. No 3rd's game. Click the links below to be taken directly to the team sheets 22nd April 2007 - Two more losses Some slack fielding cost the Under 21s a win over Northwich. Romiley set a competitive total of 181 thanks to Rick Holts magnificent century and Mark Flattleys 43. However, they were knocked off with 3 wickets to spare by a seemingly older and more experienced Northwich side. Match report here Elsewhere, the 3rds fell to a defeat away at Sale in the cup. Despite a spell of 5-38 from 6 overs from captain Hiddleston, including a hattrick, Romiley could only restrict Sale to 245 from the 45 overs. In reply, we reached 178-9, with a notable innings by Rob Booker who reached 55. Full match report to follow... So, a poor opening weekend from our teams with only the 2nds managing a win. Still, maybe the Under 13s can rescue us tomorrow evening against Poynton (I think). Why not come down and support them? 21st April 2007 - Mixed fortunes It was a day of mixed fortunes for the 1st and 2nd teams. Whilst the 2nds squeezed out a win away at Dove Holes, thanks, according to Mr Oliver Rowe, to some fine tail-end batting by Clive Middleton, the 1sts were knocked off with overs to spare at home. Detailed match reports to hopefully follow... UPDATE - 2nd Team match report here 20th April 2007 - Welcome Welcome to the brand new club website. There will undoubtedly be some glitches where I've forgotten to do something and if you see these, I'd be grateful if you could let me know either by emailing me at tom.hiddleston@gmail.com or you can leave a comment in the feedback box on the homepage. Either way I'll get back to you asap.
