4th August 2008 - Update

So... any Under 17s fancy looking at how bad their batting average is?

29th July 2008 - Site...

...is up to date. I don't know if some people need to read it in the news to realise that it's been updated but I'll put it here this time anyway. Should get rid of any confusion...

18th July 2008 - Pick your game up

A tremendous opportunity is opening up for us, guys(four points behind Hayfield, 19 ahead of third placed Birch Vale)to be champions in our first season back in the top flight. The question is how much do we want to build on this terrific position and how much more of ourselves are we prepared to give. Attendance at practice has not been good. Only two players have returned their wagonwheel charts and aims for the season. Some are depending on talent alone. Some who used to be regulars at practice I don't see apart from match to match. That's not good enough to progress either the club or players. Those who come down to private practice with the bowling machine must not use it as an excuse to miss group practice and so avoid physical work. Physical fitness in our amateur circumstances has to be down to the individual. Only you know how fit you are for this challenge....Our ability is not in question. Only attitude and commitment. I say 'only' ---- but those two hold the key to what we do and how we prepare.

24th June 2008 - And the prize for...

...the worst webmaster goes to... ME! Tonight is going to be spent updating everything that I've missed during exams so by the end of the night we should be fully up to date. So much for going to my first outdoor training of the season...

Sorry about all of the delays. From now on, everything should be pretty much normal again.

28th May 2008 - Quick note

Mick Rowe would like it to be known that after their victory against Alsager in the first round of the Cheshire Cup, Romiley's Under 15s will face Disley on Sunday 1st June. Wickets will be pitched at 2pm. Come and support our boys!

Also, just to reiterate what I said a few weeks ago, the site is being updated, just in big weekly chunks usually. Exams finish mid-June.

10th May 2008 - The website...

...is being updated even if I don't post it here on the news page but not everything will be up straight away due to exams. I'm tending to do a big chunk at a time once or twice a week at the moment. This will usually be on a Wednesday after the senior teams have been released and any other time I have free. Sorry for any inconvenience.

10th April 2008 - ...And we've not even started yet...

Romiley's scheduled friendly at Heaton Mersey on Saturday has been called off. Not even the Cheshire League club's sand-based ground was proof against the weather. But it could be resurrected the following weekend if the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire League and Cheshire League starts are delayed. It was hoped that this would be the ideal warm up for the Division One home start against Hayfield. Now, preparation for Eddie Nickson's men has been hit. The problem is made worse because the Alder School indoor facility is no longer available. The last session there was on Monday.

2nd April 2008 - Cheshire Cup Draw

Romiley have the chance of a cup revenge. We've been drawn at home against Didsbury in the Lovelane Cheshire Cup. It was the Cheshire County League club who put us out of the Cockspur Cup, the national knock out competition, two seasons ago. We bowled them out cheaply on their own ground, but couldn't knock off the runs needed. This second round tie - we've been given a bye in the first --is on Sunday, May 18

1st April 2008 - Welcome back

Hello there! The start of a new month and the site is finally ready (almost) for the new season. Pages for the new teams we have (minus the ladies team right now) have been added and everything has been freshened up. All of last years match reports and statistics can still be accessed through the team pages and when team captains/coaches give me their fixture lists they'll go up too.

As well as that, there are now club forums for the use of anybody and everybody. Access them via the extras menubar. They need a bit of tweaking still but they should be okay to use for now. The same as ever applies to the site: If you see a problem, let me know.

And now, some news from Martin which I received ages ago but couldn't put online due to the fact that the site was halfway through being updated:

"Romiley will start the new campaign with a pre-season friendly at Heaton Mersey on Saturday, April 12. We have arranged a 40-over match with the Cheshire County League club as a warm-up for the season proper. That begins a week later when we face a home clash with Hayfield in our first match back in the first division of the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire League. The lads have been working indoors since January but, weather permitting, there's nothing like time in the middle for real preparation. Skipper Eddie Nickson will aim to field the team he hopes will see off Hayfield."
