    Romiley vs Pott Shrigley

We need just seven points from our final two games at Cheadle Ladybridge and Chester County Officers to ensure our first season in the Pyramid is the success we hoped it would be. Failing collective suicide, pestilence or plague we should be in the Second Division of the Meller Braggins Cheshire League in 2011 – that’s even if third- placed Bunbury, the only team that can catch us, take a maximum 50 points from their last outings.

Our main aim now is to finish properly, as champions – and Bunbury will help us if they can beat leaders Woodford and we do our end of the business. The situation follows our return to winning ways on Saturday(Sept 4) with a crushing eight-wicket success over Pott Shrigley, gaining a vital five points on Bunbury,  who took only 20 points for their two-run win over Old Parkonians.

We needed a big win after the disappointing loss at Woodford, but we never expected Pott Shrigley to capitulate as they did. They had given us a hard game at their place and since then had strengthened by signing the two Hough brothers from Bollington. Both openers looked as if they could give us trouble, but once they had gone for just 15 runs, the rest folded against the accuracy of Sam Astley(6-4-2-2) and Alex Barber(8-5-16-2) and then crumbled against the potency of Billy Flattley. Billy, far from himself at Woodford, stormed back to form with his best figures of the season, 6-15. T.Mannion(16) and J.Hough(11) were the only batsmen to reach double figures as Pott were tumbled out for 46 in under 29 overs. The action was over so swiftly, the umpires didn’t bother taking tea between innings and we knocked off the runs in just over 14 overs. Tommy Rolph(8) and Andy Bashford(16) were our only casualties. Rick Holt finished unbeaten on 14 and Tommy Roberts’ first run was the winning one. We were done and dusted so early that Alex and the boys had time to take in the final stages of Hyde’s Premier League summit win over Neston. A few more years and they won’t be watching them, they will be playing them…..

Scores: Pott Shrigley 46(28.1 overs; Flattley 6-15, Astley 2-2. Barber 2-16). Romiley 47-2(14.2 overs)
